POST 3 : INDIVIDUAL WORK ON "THE IDEA OF PROGRESS"
New Technology Helping Give Some The Ability To Walk :
The one I chose illustrate for me the major advanced of these devices, and is called : Exoskeleton. I know the name can be a little bit scary but the goals of this machine are promising. In fact, this is a wearable robot, a kind of suit which permit and encourage people with serious issues to re-learn to walk. Many people are in wheelchair due to an accident and have lost their ability to move. As well as others who are born with palsy. These men, women or even children are stuck in a life that they haven't really chosen. On top of that, it isn't possible to them to do something without someone else. However, thanks to the help of exoskeleton, persons with disabilities can stand up, take steps... it's even conceivable for a few patients to raise a leg. For exemple, since the robot has arrived at Glenrose hospital in Canada three years ago, it has helped not less than 80 people !
In this video, which is from CTV News ( Canada News ), we have two exemples of patients who are using the robot as their "treatment": Ryan, who has been victim of a farm accident which left him with some injuries, and a 16 years old boy born with cerebral palsy. So we have access here to two testimonies, with two differents opinions. First, Ryan tells us how the robot can take for granded the disability until he have to train his body and mind. He seems grateful because like he says, it's hard to do it all over again. And in the same way, the youngster looks exciting and joyful. He's feeling, for the first time, powerful with the "suit" on. He tells us " it helps my disability not get annoyed". As a result, he is also hoping to have one day the possibility to do simple things he's always dream of, like kicking a ball.
I'm glad to note that, this is a huge step in the domain of disability, because the faster these people are able to get up, and move, even just a little... the faster they will make progress and fight against their injuries. And for sure, they don't have the accessibility to do all of that alone. I share the view that they have physiotherapists and many other persons ready to help them, but maybe the exoskeleton can be ( why not ) a "better" solution for them. Maybe it helps more, maybe not... but honestly in my opinion it can be something which could change people's lives especially when they have lost hope. People, who have lost hope, to be one day like they used to be and those who are dreaming of independance. And as a conclusion, this is for me one of the positive thing that new technologies have brought to us, in our daily life.
Despite all the criticisms that we can find and argue about new technologies, being in constant technological advances enable lots of life-changing inventions. Personally, I couldn't agree more with the fact that new technologies have the capacity to help some people.

Very well done.
